Photodynamic Therapy

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a proven safe and effective non-surgical treatment option for managing precancerous sun spots and early non-invasive skin cancers (superficial basal cell carcinomas and intraepidermal carcinomas).

PDT uses a topical cream medication, oxygen and light to create a chemical reaction that destroys skin cancer cells, while leaving the normal skin cells unharmed.

The main advantage of PDT is that it avoids scarring and other complications from surgery. It is performed in the practice, and involves 1-2 appointments (depending on what is being treated). A follow-up appointment is usually required after the treatment to ensure it has been effective.
