About Dr Laura Wheller

Dr Laura Wheller is a specialist dermatologist and Fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatologists.

Having grown up in Brisbane, Dr Wheller studied a Bachelor of Science before graduating with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Queensland in 2007. She also later obtained a post-graduate Master of Epidemiology while working as a resident doctor and in dermatology research. Dr Wheller completed her specialist dermatology training at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Princess Alexandra Hospital, Queensland Institute of Dermatology, and Queensland Children’s Hospital. She became a Fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatologists in 2016. 

After working at private practices in Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast, Dr Wheller founded Ascot Dermatology in 2022. Aside from working in private practice, Dr Wheller also has been a consultant dermatologist at the Queensland Children’s Hospital since 2018, where she runs both a general paediatric dermatology clinic and a specialised eczema/biologic clinic. 

With a passion for medical research, Dr Wheller has developed a particular focus on paediatric dermatology, and she supervises research projects in this field at the Queensland Children’s Hospital. Dr Wheller enjoys teaching medical students, junior doctors and GPs, and she is a Senior Lecturer with the University of Queensland School of Medicine. Dr Wheller is also an active member within the Australasian College of Dermatologists, where she currently serves on the National Examinations Committee.

Dr Wheller is a general dermatologist, and she sees both paediatric and adult patients. Her special areas of interest include skin cancer detection and management, acne, complex skin rashes, vulval skin disorders and paediatric dermatology. 

Dr Wheller has two young daughters and in her spare time she enjoys being with her family, holidaying at the beach or snow, and keeping active.
