Allergy Patch Testing

Allergy patch testing is method used to investigate whether a patient has developed an allergy to something coming in contact with the skin. It involves sticking patches onto a patient’s back and watching for the development of skin reactions over a number of days. The patches consist of multiple chambers, each containing a small amount of different potential allergens.

At Ascot Dermatology, we typically conduct allergy patch testing over a five-day period using the Australian Baseline Series (the top 60 contact allergens in Australia), although specialised testing can be performed if indicated. Medicare rebates are available for allergy patch testing.
